Sports Physicals and Check-Ups

As we venture into Summer and look to next Fall, the time has come when we start seeing lots of patients for their sports physicals!

You may have heard of some updated requirements from the UIL (the University Interscholastic League which governs all public school athletic and fine arts competition in the state of Texas) this year given the pandemic and all of the craziness it has caused.

In Texas, however, individual districts MAY CHOOSE TO STILL REQUIRE ALL STUDENTS to have a sports physical done. So the bottom line is, CALL YOUR DISTRICT or check their website for their requirements for the 2020-21 seasons.

Given the pandemic and the accompanied reluctance of many families to venture out of the home and to be around others this Spring, we are going to TRIAL a scheduling change to accommodate more of you who may be playing “catch-up” over the summer to squeeze in sports physicals and check-ups. Previously, our Saturday hours have been strictly for acute illnesses, but we are expanding the schedule to include sports physicals and check-ups.

There will be limited availability and you may not be seeing your doctor as our Saturday clinic is staffed by the on-call physician and a nurse practitioner. But we feel this is an important opportunity to extend to you at this time. CALL TO SCHEDULE these appointments. If your child has chronic issues that you want to talk about at these appointments, please be aware that these will likely be deferred to a later appointment date with your primary doc as they are best managed by him/her.

Give us a shout to schedule. And we look forward to seeing and reading about your child’s accomplishments in UIL sanctioned activities this upcoming school year!
